"Really nice to work with, the color ant texture are consistent and the veg tan type is really well done.
The splitting service is a really time saver.Resistant to almost every scratch and yet beautiful." - Kevin M.
Sully goat from Alran in France is produced in a meticulous 23-step process, with each hide hand-boarded to enhance its signature grain. This leather is retanned and dyed for softness, strength, and brilliant, even coloration throughout the hide. With a medium temper and excellent durability at thin cuts, it is ideal for small goods, watch straps, and linings. Sully’s unmatched colors and distinctive texture make it one of the most trusted luxury goat leathers worldwide.
Leather splitting is a custom service available down to your preferred thickness
Please note split leather can't be returned
There is a tolerance to leather splitting. While we have invested a lot of time and training into hitting a tighter tolerance range than advertised, sometimes the leather articles and differing densities require the full tolerance range.
Leather tolerance is denoted by +/- which means the leather can be both above and below that number by the denoted amount.
How we gauge the leather is with a thickness gauge that can reach both the edges and middle of the hide. We apply a moderate amount of pressure (Not too hard and not too soft)
Again our tolerances are tighter than the tanneries. We are usually well inside the range, especially on panels, but occasionally need the full range. Tolerance ranges are as follows:
Splitting Panels: +/- (0.1mm).
Splitting Full Hides & Half Hides: +/- 0.15mm
No Splitting (From Tannery Splitter): +/- 0.2mm

LINKS TO OTHER SULLY COLORS
Founded in 1903 in the South of Tarn and set in the beautiful surroundings of the "Montagne Noire" (the black mountains), the tannery Alran S.A.S. has developed a vast expertise in the tanning of goat skins. They are well renown in the community and have many articles used for handbags, small leather goods and watch straps
Chevre "Sully" is one of Alran's top articles and is produced in a special 23-step process which takes 4 weeks to produce. One of the most critical processes involves hand boarding each hide to increase the depth and structure of the grain, providing a unique and distinctive look.
This goat leather is their top grade. The leather is tanned in a full veg-tanned crust and then retanned and dyed with some mineral tannage to add softness and strength at thinner thicknesses. This process is the key to achieving its distinct grain, soft yet structured feel and even consistent color.
When you combine the unique grain, great temper, durability and beautiful consistent colors across the entire hide, you will see why it is a staple amongst the top brands.

Yield

80%+ With a natural product like leather, there can be areas with neck and back wrinkles, veins, scars, bites, loose grain, but in general this article can expect an overall high cutting area. Sides do include bellies where there can be some loose grain. This leather being semi aniline (meaning the leather is very mostly natural with some slight finishing) the leather will have most areas of concern covered improving yield. Darker colors will also better hide any areas of concern. A key skill of using full aniline leather is the ability to work less desirable areas of the hide into the less visible areas of your projects. Overall this article has a high cutting yield. |
