OVERVIEW

These American Alligator (Mississippiensis) come from alligators in Louisiana. The hides are then tanned by one of the top tanneries in France supplying the luxury brands. The tannage brings out the grain and unique scales. The skins are the highly sought after farm raised which is the highest quality available and most our supply is grade 1 and 2.

Alligator is a special exotic leather that has one of the most distinct rectangular scale patterns across the belly with a unique transition to a rounded pattern flank.  Alligator is perfect for all types of luxury goods like handbags, wallets, shoes, watch straps, and other small leather goods. This is a special exotic leather that will bring a distinct luxury feel to your projects!

• Grading: 1, 2 3 (Grades are done by how many quadrants of the belly, not including flank, tail and head area, that have defects. If 0-1 of the quadrants have a defect then it is grade 1. If 2 quadrants have defects it is a grade 2. If 3 quadrants have defects it is a grade 3) 
• Yield: High 85%+, With a natural product like leather, there can be areas with neck and back wrinkles, veins, scars, bites, loose grain, but in general this article can expect an overall high cutting area. Grading is done by inspecting how many of the quadrants have defects. 0-1 quadrants with defects = Grade 1, 2 quadrants with defect = Grade... and so on. The tail and head may have defects but this does not get factored into the grading as the main area of concern is the belly.

CITES

The skins are all CITES II tagged and approved ensuring they were imported meeting all regulations and guidelines. The hides are farm raised (highest quality) for meat and the skin is a byproduct. 

SIZES

Alligator is measured across the belly. So when you see 29cm, this means the skin is 29 cm wide across the belly area. Some Estimate dimensions are:

• • Head Size: 15m wide by 20cm long
  • Belly Size: 28/29cm wide by 30cm long
  • Tail Size: 20cm wide by 50cm long

A few skins may have a small 1x3" sections of tail removed by the tannery for production/color testing. 

USES

The Head has beautiful small scales that are great for card holders, other small leather goods and accents 

The Belly has beautiful square shaped scales and round shaped flanks that provide a ton of options. These are traditionally used in luxury goods like wallets, clutches, small purses, watch straps and other small leather goods. The 28 & 29cm width is great for so many of these items

The Tail has a unique slightly taller and more rectangular scales that are popular for watch straps, purse straps, cases, wallets, and many other small leather goods.

COLORS

Please note the pictures are our best representation of the leather and colors vary from monitor to monitor. If color accuracy is very critical for you we recommend emailing us and purchase a sample cutting prior to purchase. Also note color can vary production dye lot to dye lot.
