OVERVIEW

Python Snakeskin (Malayopython Reticulatus) is one of the most unique exotic leather articles. The Python has a unique diamond pattern scale on their back that has a beautiful symmetric look. The skins are dyed completely though and have both matte and shiny options. This listing we have cut the skin into 12" length panels that are perfect for all types of projects.

There are 2 types of cuts for this article. 

  • Front Cut - Which shows the full back of the skin as a large piece, showing the diamond patterned scales
  • Back Cut - Which shows the belly of the skin as a large piece, showing the beautiful rectangular belly pattern scales

GRADING

  • Grade 1 - Really Clean, 0-1 minor defects (Yield 90%)
  • Grade 2 - Average, some minor defects, discoloration areas (Yield 80%)
  • Grade 3 - Below average, more defects, best for small items or to embrace the natural blemishes. (Yield 60%)
  • *Sizing - width is measured in inches across the belly area of the skin

FINISH

  • Matte (Natural Matte Finish)
  • Shiny (Gloss Finish)

THICKNESS

  • 0.4 +/- 0.2mm 

CITES

The skins are all CITES II approved ensuring they were imported meeting all regulations and guidelines. The hides come from lizards for meat and the skin is a byproduct. At the moment we are not set up to export, we are working to make this a reality in the near future for a small fee. With a natural product like leather, there can be areas with neck and back wrinkles, veins, scars, bites, loose grain, but in general this article can expect an overall high cutting area. Double Shoulders also increase the cutting yield due to having no bellies where most the defects and loose grain are located. If you require large cuts for bigger products like totes, duffles, etc., we recommend whenever possible ordering a full hide. This leather being full aniline (meaning the leather is very natural with no extra finishing on the surface to hide any flaws) darker colors will better hide any areas of concern. A key skill of using full aniline leather is the ability to work less desirable areas of the hide into the less visible areas of your projects.
